The Chief Executive Officer of the NW Gambling Board, Mr. Nathan Oliphant says this is a step in the right direction in dealing with the scourge of Illegal Gambling in the province.

“Our problem with Illegal Gambling transcend the revenue we lose to these rogue operations. Our concern is that these sites have been a haven for criminal activities such as money laundering, human and drug trafficking. Police must act on these people and there shouldn’t be any place to hide” said Oliphant.

The North-West Gambling Board loses close to thirty million rands in taxes and levies per annum due to Illegal Gambling operations. Mr Oliphant maintains a more robust approach is needed to deal with Illegal Gambling.

The Board is currently on a massive media campaign aimed at educating unsuspecting punters about the dangers of gambling at unlicensed gambling operations. Among others the initiative includes Responsible Gambling campaigns and a radio drama on Illegal Gambling to caution the public to be safe and gamble only at licensed gambling operations. The radio drama is currently running on four community radio stations across the province.
