The North West Gambling Board proudly attended the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF) 20th anniversary gala on 01 November 2024, marking two decades of impactful work in supporting individuals affected by gambling addiction. The event highlighted the foundation’s unwavering dedication to providing free counselling and treatment services, which have benefitted thousands of South Africans seeking help to navigate the challenges of problem gambling.
As a committed partner, the North West Gambling Board has allocated significant resources to promote SARGF’s essential services. Through extensive awareness and educational campaigns, they have successfully referred numerous individuals to the foundation, amplifying the message about the risks associated with underage and irresponsible gambling.
The Board has made it a priority to reach young people, particularly in the context of the growing prevalence of online betting and the negative effects as a result of the increase of gambling marketing across mass and social media. Young people are urged to view gambling strictly as a form of recreation rather than a potential source of income.
At the gala dinner, the North West Gambling Board was honoured with a bronze award for “Best Emerging Responsible Gambling Program,” a testament to innovative approaches in educating communities throughout the Province. The Executive Management expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff whose tireless efforts have made this recognition possible. Their commitment and hard work have undoubtedly spared thousands from the devastating impacts of gambling addiction.
