The Member of the Executive Council for Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism, Honourable Keneetswe Mosenogi acting in terms of the provisions of section 5read together with section 9 of the North West Gambling Act 2 of 2001, as amended has recently appointed three additional Board members to the North West Gambling Board.

The appointment of Adv. O. Dibetso-Bodibe, Dr M Lekota and Ms. MR Moye came at a time where the Board had to fill vacancies that have been existing for more than two years.

In his welcome address, the North West Gambling Board Chairperson, Mr Lavelle Vere highlighted that these appointments will go a long way in strengthening the governance capacity of the entity which recently received a clean bill of health from the Auditor-General.

The Chairperson and Executive Management met with the newly appointed Board of Directors during an induction session which was aimed at orientating the new board members on the mandate and operational structure of the Board.

“The Board has a mandate to regulate the gambling in general and to ensure transformation in the gambling industry as well as ensure that the general members of the communities receive some value from gambling activities through the Socio-Economic Development initiatives. Even though these funds are never enough, a lot has been achieved in the previous years. The Board built house for a family of 10 people in Masutlhe and also paid tuition fees for two indigent children at the North West University just to name a few. We wish to do more if funds can be availed to the entity so that we change the lives of our people,” said Mr Vere.

The Acting CEO, Mr S Mogapi shared the entities plans which included the plan to license the third Route Operator, introduction of the Bet-exchange bookmaker and a project of a fifth casino.

“The Board members join the North West Gambling Board at a time when the Peermont Group has lodged an application for the location of its casino operation which is trading as Mmabatho Palms Casino, from Mahikeng to Rustenburg. This process will be challenging process but we confident that the appointment of new board members, their experience and expertise will see us through this process,” said Mr Mogapi.

Mr. Vere assured new members of his unconditional support in their execution of their fiduciary duties.
